Home Care Instructions - Extractions

  • You may be numb for several hours following the procedure.
  • Avoid chewing in the area until numbness wears off.
  • The injection and surgical sites may be sore for several days.
  • A small amount of bleeding, swelling, and discomfort is normal for the first 2-3 days.
  • Take Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to minimize your discomfort.
  • Leave the surgical site alone for the first 48 hours except for swishing with warm salt water.
  • You may gently brush the area after the first 48 hours.
  • Avoid eating food which may become lodged in the surgical site – a soft diet is best for 3-4 days.
  • Avoid playing or disturbing any stitches.
