Home Care Instructions - Crowns

  • You may be numb for several hours following the procedure. Avoid chewing in the area until numbness wears off.
  • Your gums and injection site may be sore for several days. If necessary, take Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to minimize your discomfort.
  • You may experience temperature sensitivity for a few weeks. This should subside over time.
  • If temporary crown placed, avoid sticky or crunchy foods. Keep teeth clean by brushing and flossing, but be sure to pull the floss out towards your cheek so as not to pop the temporary off. Please call us if your temporary crown comes loose.
  • If permanent crown cemented, wait 24 hours before resuming normal use.
  • If your bite is high or doesn’t feel right once the numbness wears off, please let us know so we can re-evaluate it and address as needed.
